Midnight yawn

Site specific installation. Cyanotype on translucent paper. 2024.
Group show view at Atelier Mondial. Curated by Filipa Ramos. Basel.

Almost every night I can hear the leaves of some of the plants in my room hit the walls as they fold their leaves when darkness comes. Some plant species move every day, unfolding their leaves in the morning searching for sunlight. This circadian rhythm, called nyctinasty, is a response to the night and the darkness.

We sleep together in the same room, the plants and me. Usually when I hear them, I am also ready to sleep. Inspired by the nightly rituals of plant movement, I aim to capture the rhythm of these movements and the passage of time within the intimate space of my room.

This series of drawings is based on these movements, the subtle and mostly unseen dance that the plants do every day, the ritual of sleeping and the passing of time through the plants of my room.
